According to the American media outlets Variety and Deadline, Sean Penn is set to direct and produce a feature film about the storming of the Capitol.

The film will follow the story of a police officer facing the terrible insurrection which took place on January 6, 2021—a role that could be played by Bradley Cooper. According to the same sources, filming is expected to begin in mid-2027.

Background

At the time, Donald Trump claimed loud and clear that the 2020 election had been rigged. There was no concrete evidence, no basis for the claim, and yet hundreds of supporters forced their way into this sanctuary of American democracy. The goal? To prevent the official certification of Joe Biden’s victory.

Having never conceded his electoral defeat, Donald Trump rejects any responsibility for the attack. Moreover, he considers the rioters to be true “patriots.” As reported by Soirmag, in 2024, upon his return to power, the current president of the United States has pardoned nearly 1,250 convicted criminals, commuted the sentences of 14 others, and ordered the dismissal of charges against hundreds of defendants still awaiting trial.

A committed filmmaker

An openly left-leaning filmmaker, Sean Penn had closely followed the hearings of the congressional investigative committee. According to industry publications, Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to his upcoming film. The choice of distributor adds an ironic twist to the story: the legendary studio is currently in the process of being acquired by Paramount Skydance, whose CEO, David Ellison, is a close associate of Donald Trump.
