Ballet of Flanders brings Nabucco to stage in 2026

The Ballet of Flanders (Opera Ballet Vlaanderen) will present the new production 'Nabucco' in the 2025-2026 season. The premiere will take place on February 24, 2026 in Antwerp. This new staging by director Christiane Jatahy combines Verdi's opera with contemporary elements, conducted by Gaetano Lo Coco.

Director Christiane Jatahy offers a contemporary reinterpretation of Nabucco by linking Verdi's opera (1842) with contemporary themes such as abuse of power, religious fanaticism, migration and imperialism. On stage, she uses mirrors to confront audience and performers, blurring the lines between spectator and action, and places the Babylonian exile of the Jews in a modern context of refugees and oppression.
