Born on July 18: Daniel Norgren, fjords' guitarist with the velvety voice

He was born in 1983 in the small town of Boras (Borås) in Sweden, and the conventions of modern city life seem to hold no sway over him.

Even though he expresses himself admirably through his six-string electric guitar, Daniel Norgren doesn’t really embrace the role of a guitar hero. You might see him grimace a bit when he coaxes a particularly intricate tone out of his trusty Horner 172. But he’ll never strut across the stage jumping around like a goat or pulling off a string of guitar flourishes. Daniel Norgren is neither Angus Young (AC/DC) nor Pete Townshend from the “Live At Leeds” era…

Instead, he sees himself as a craftsman—patient and methodical, always in search of melodic perfection. Almost always decked out in his lumberjack shirts and hidden under his cap, Daniel Norgren is no fashion icon. Whether in the city or on stage, it’s clearly not his wardrobe that matters. Without putting too much pressure on himself, he’s never succumbed to the siren call of the major record labels and, since his debut album Keresone Dreams, has remained unwaveringly loyal to his own micro-label, Superpuma.

This Swedish giant really does things his own way. With no pressure whatsoever, he takes the time he needs to fine-tune his compositions before entering the studio. His latest album is titled Woon Dang and was released in 2019. But he reminded us of his talent with a live album two years ago. And since good news never comes alone, he’s regularly hitting the road again and taking advantage of this summer to treat us once more to those unforgettable concerts that only he knows how to deliver.
