The first official trailer for "Gatto" has just been unveiled: Enrico Casarosa’s new film will be set in Venice.
The artistic collaboration between animation from across the Atlantic and the beauty of Italian landscapes is back. After captivating audiences worldwide with the Cinque Terre scenery in the hit film “Luca,” Oscar-nominated director Enrico Casarosa is back at the helm of a monumental project for Disney Studios.
Disney and Pixar have just unveiled the very first images from the animated film “Gatto.” This feline adventure, tinged with mystery and irony, takes place amid the narrow streets and enchanting atmosphere of an underground Venice. Its official release is scheduled for Europe and the United States between March 3 and 5, 2027.
Intrigue and the feline underworld in the shadow of the City of the Doges
The film’s plot delves deeply into the urban legends and superstitions that have long surrounded black cats. The film’s hero is “Nero,” a stray cat with a decidedly hot-tempered nature who has spent his entire life slipping through the canals and shadowy corners of the Venetian lagoon.
The narrative turning point of the story begins following a particularly dangerous misstep: Nero finds himself heavily in debt to the local feline mafia, a full-fledged criminal organization that controls every underground corner of the city. Hunted by his creditors, the protagonist begins to question the choices that have guided his life and to search for his true purpose in the world—especially after his chance and unexpected encounter with an outcast cat who will radically shake up his perception of things.
A five-star voice cast, from Mark Ruffalo to Laurence Fishburne
The first promotional images released online revealed some extremely refined graphic sequences, focusing in particular on a tense and hilarious face-off during an interrogation. For the original English version, the studios have assembled a lineup of top-tier Hollywood voice actors.
Oscar winner Mark Ruffalo will lend his voice to the protagonist Nero, bringing the perfect balance of cynicism and vulnerability to the character. Alongside him, iconic actor Laurence Fishburne will portray Rocco, the ruthless and charismatic godfather of this four-legged underworld.
Anticipation in Movie Theaters, Eagerly Awaiting Upcoming Franchises
While fans of the studio eagerly await the theatrical release of the highly anticipated “Toy Story 5” (scheduled for this summer), this new original title promises to establish itself as one of the most intriguing animated films of spring 2027. With its perfect balance of comedy, action, and a profound quest for identity, Casarosa’s feature film aims to be much more than just family entertainment, transforming the city of Venice into a character in its own right capable of captivating audiences of all ages.
