"I missed you all": Johnny Depp announces his return to the big screen at Comic-Con

  • Aug 03, 2026 11:34

Johnny Depp made a lasting impression on many fans at the 2026 San Diego Comic-Con. How? By wandering through the Gaslamp Quarter dressed as the thoroughly unpleasant Ebenezer Scrooge, his new role in Ti West’s film “Scrooge.”

Just like old Scrooge, the actor teased fans dressed as the iconic characters he has portrayed (Edward Scissorhands, Willy Wonka, Jack Sparrow). He then interrupted a press conference to unveil the trailer for this “dark reimagining of the Dickens classic,” according to Première.

This feature film, set for release on November 11, 2026, marks Johnny Depp’s return to the big screen since “Jeanne du Barry.” This is a key milestone for the actor, whose career had been upended by his highly publicized trial against Amber Heard and his ostracization from Hollywood studios.

A star-studded cast

From the very first seconds of the trailer, the iconic line “I’ve missed you” rings out as a nod to his fans. For this major project, the star shares the screen with Rupert Grint, Daisy Ridley, Ian McKellen, and Andrea Riseborough. That’s quite a lineup!
