On the day of her 44th birthday, Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, chose to celebrate this anniversary with a gesture far removed from royal formalities: the publication of a new video in the 'Mother Nature' series. The project in question has accompanied her for a full year and now, with the episode 'Winter,' it takes on an even more personal connotation. In the footage, distributed by Kensington Palace, we see Kate on a walk in Berkshire, not far from Windsor, as her voice reflects on what nature has given her during the most vulnerable period of her life.
The power of winter and gratitude
The core of the video is a monologue that leaves no room for hollow phrases, but moves into the realm of genuine emotion. Kate recounts how, precisely in the darkest months of her illness, contact with nature became a refuge.
Indeed, in January 2024, Kate underwent complicated abdominal surgery and shortly thereafter was diagnosed with cancer, after which she began preventive chemotherapy. In March, she decided to share everything with the public and opted for openness. In September 2024, she announced the end of treatments and in early 2025 came the long-awaited news of remission.
Her words are a true token of gratitude:
"Even though it's the coldest and darkest season, winter has the power to bring us calm, patience and quiet reflection. It's when the flow slows down just enough to allow us to see our own reflection. To discover the deepest parts of ourselves. Along with the whispers in the heartbeat of every living being. I find myself reflecting on how deeply grateful I am. As the rivers within us flow with ease, fears are washed away, purified and cleansing. Finding peace with our tears and discovering what it means to be alive."
The "Mother Nature" project
The 'Mother Nature' series was created as a creative journey exploring the cycle of the seasons and their connection to the human experience. Each episode is intended to show how nature can help rebalance, encourage inner growth and strengthen the bonds between people. For Kate, however, this project is also a kind of visual diary: a way to tell, without filters, how landscapes, silences and the slow rhythms of the outdoors have contributed to her healing process.
