The future of the James Bond saga continues to generate interest as Amazon MGM Studios continues development of the next Agent 007 film.
The company, which has taken the creative reins of the franchise, has appointed Denis Villeneuve as director, a welcome choice following the filmmaker's success with the "Dune" saga. The screenplay will be entrusted to Steven Knight, creator of the "Peaky Blinders" series. These are just a few of the details to emerge from CinemaCon, the world's largest and most important film industry gathering. CinemaCon is a global event attracting participants from over 80 countries.
At the just-concluded CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Courtenay Valenti, the studio's head of cinema, stressed the importance of the selection process: "I know everyone is wondering when we're going to announce who will play James Bond," she said. "Don't get your hopes up. I want you to know that we're taking the time necessary to do this with care and deep respect. It's a lifelong dream for all of us to be able to offer audiences this new chapter, and it's a responsibility we don't take lightly," she assured.
Valenti added:"Here's what I can tell you: when you combine one of the most beloved franchises in history with a first-rate team, including brilliant director Denis Villeneuve, extraordinary producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, and executive producer Tanya Lapointe and screenwriter Steven Knight, you're setting the stage for something that will truly live up to the Bond legacy. This film will see the light of day, and when the time comes, we'll have so much more to share."
So there's no answer to the question that's been gripping fans: who will be the new 007 to take over from Daniel Craig?
Casting is underway, and the list of candidates is getting pretty long.
The list includes Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Harris Dickinson (Babygirl) and Jacob Elordi (Hurlevent), not forgetting Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kraven) and Callum Turner (Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore's Secrets).
A few weeks ago, Euronews culture even announced that actress Jessie Buckley, who recently won an Oscar for her role in the film "Hamnet", would be the new James Bond, a report published on April 1.
James Bond opus 26, whose title has yet to be revealed, is due to start shooting in 2027 and to be released in 2028.
