Scooby-Doo returns in live action: First glance at an irresistible trailer

The most famous detective dog on the small screen is set to make a big comeback, but in a completely new version that promises to redefine the entire franchise.

Netflix has unveiled the very first images from "Scooby-Doo: Origins," a live-action series project that will explore the early days of the famous team of paranormal investigators.

The real surprise—one sure to melt the hearts of fans of all generations—lies in the very nature of the protagonist. This time, there’s no relying on CGI or digital effects: to lend Scooby his features, fur, and paws, the production team has cast a real Great Dane puppy. A bold choice that breaks from previous film adaptations and aims to restore a strong sense of authenticity and emotional depth to the bond between the animal and his iconic group of human friends.

A Close Encounter of the Third Kind in the Woods

The promotional video adopts a unique visual narrative, immersing the viewer directly in the dog’s perspective. The camera moves at ground level through dense vegetation, accompanied by muffled sounds and the panting breath of the puppy as it explores its surroundings. The sequence culminates in a moment of pure emotion with the close encounter between the little four-legged friend and a very young Sammy (Shaggy), played by actor Tanner Hagen.

The official synopsis centers precisely on this legendary friendship, which began at the end of summer vacation at a summer camp. What was supposed to be an ordinary stay for Shaggy and Daphne turns into a nightmare when they stumble upon the lost puppy, who appears to be the sole and unlikely witness to a crime with supernatural overtones.

The New Face of Mystery Inc.

To breathe new life into the characters created in 1969 by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears for the legendary Hanna-Barbera studio, the production has assembled a cast of promising young talent. Alongside Tanner Hagen, we’ll find Mckenna Grace as the determined Daphne Blake. The team is rounded out by Abby Ryder Fortson, who plays the rational and scientific Velma Dinkley, as well as Maxwell Jenkins in the role of the charming and mysterious newcomer, Fred Jones.

Together, the four teenagers will attempt to unravel a dark mystery that threatens to bring their deepest secrets to the surface. Among the most intriguing additions to the cast is Paul Walter Hauser, fresh off major film projects such as "Fantastic Four: The Beginning," whose role in the series remains strictly confidential for now.

Filming for the TV series is currently in full swing in Atlanta, Georgia, under the supervision of Warner Bros. Television. Creative direction and screenwriting have been entrusted to the duo of Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg.

The production team brings together leading names in American television, including Greg Berlanti. The pilot episode is being directed by Toby Haynes, already acclaimed for his work on cult series such as "Doctor Who" and "Sherlock." Although the series is scheduled to officially join the platform’s global catalog in 2027, it is already establishing itself as one of the most anticipated young adult projects of the coming years.
