The Snoop Dogg biopic takes shape: Release date revealed

Snoop Dogg is set to join the wave of music biopics, following in the footsteps of legends like Michael Jackson, Bob Dylan, and Bruce Springsteen.

While the genre has so far focused on commemorating deceased celebrities, as seen in Bohemian Rhapsody and Elvis, the film industry is now turning its attention to the careers of living artists, as evidenced by recent films dedicated to Bruce Springsteen (Deliver Me from Nowhere) and Bob Dylan (A Complete Unknown).

And in this particular case, Universal Pictures has entrusted the direction of the feature film, simply titled Snoop, to director Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow). Actor Jonathan Daviss, known for his role in Outer Banks, will take on the role of the famous Californian rapper. For now, however, the exact details of the screenplay remain under wraps.

With this upcoming release, the studio is reaffirming its grand ambitions in the music industry and is capitalizing on the success of its recent biopics, including 8 Mile about Eminem and the blockbuster Michael, which grossed over $1 billion at the box office.

Set for release in theaters on August 6, 2027, the film Snoop is already shaping up to be a major event. For Donna Langley, president ofUniversal Pictures, this tribute was a natural choice: “Snoop Dogg’s life and legacy make him one of the most exciting and influential figures in popular culture. We are honored to be able to create what will be a lasting tribute to the journey of this extraordinary artist.”
